| There’s much about Poison that has the aura of a truly world-class nightclub. Bouncers clad in black spill out of the narrow lane in which it’s situated and the chap at the entrance scans you from tip-to-toe before deciding if you’re truly worthy of being let through the velvet rope. Then there’s the vast amount of space, the fabulous air-conditioning and the top-line DJs that make up the weekend bill. (Aqeel is one of the partners.) Once inside, you have two choices: to channel your inner Hrithik or Kareena, head on to the dance floor and shake it faster and friskier than you would a Polaroid picture; or, if you don’t quite fancy elbow-wrestling with neighbouring punters, to find a spot by the bar or below the DJ console and take in the sights. And sights there are aplenty: the pipe-smoking, sunglass-wearing suit who’s surveying the scene like a hawk getting ready for his next kill; the amorous couple who couldn’t be bothered that they’re blocking the bar; and the group of NRI boys bhangra-bopping in celebration of the exchange rate and that they’re finally in a country where they don’t have to be concerned with the behavioural niceties of maintaining personal space (all this on a night when we didn’t spot even a mini-celebrity).
